What a black box module adds to Simrad displays

Simrad's black box sonar modules add high-performance fishfinding processing to an existing NSS, NSO or compatible display without needing a dedicated standalone sounder taking up panel space. The module handles the sonar processing itself, so performance depends as much on the transducer connected to it as on the display showing the result, meaning a broadband or CHIRP-capable transducer is worth matching to the module's own capability rather than reusing an older basic one.

Connection back to the display runs over Simrad's Ethernet network, so check port availability and cable length on your existing setup before adding a module, particularly if radar and other Ethernet devices are already sharing the network. Where a boat already runs a full-size display with spare processing headroom, a module is often a more compact solution than a dedicated fishfinder, since it uses screen space you already have rather than adding another unit at the helm.
