Fitting lithium into an existing system
Swapping lead-acid for Victron's Smart LiFePO4 batteries is rarely a straight one-for-one replacement, because the rest of the charging system needs to understand lithium's different charge profile. Chargers, inverter chargers, alternators and solar controllers may need their charge parameters reset for lithium, and any existing battery monitor should be reconfigured or replaced so it reports state of charge correctly rather than using lead-acid assumptions.
Victron's Smart batteries communicate over Bluetooth and can be linked into a Cerbo GX or similar, so the wider system can see individual battery status and manage charging accordingly, rather than relying on a standalone battery alone. Wiring batteries in series or parallel needs matched cable lengths and a class T or equivalent high rupture capacity fuse close to the battery terminals, since lithium can deliver very high fault currents.
