Description

The Quick BTQ1404012 is a 12V DC electric thruster with a single propeller, delivering 40 kgf of thrust from a 2.2 kW motor in a 140 mm diameter tunnel. Quick lists the BTQ series for boats of roughly 7-9 m (23-29 ft) (recommended boat length for the BTQ 140 range, quickitaly.com).

It has a bronze gearbox, an aluminium anode that is independent from the gearbox and so easily replaceable, and an elastic coupling. Quick's BTQ manual lists a recommended fuse of 225 A (CNL DIN) and a thruster weight of 12.2 kg for the standard version of this model; the weight of this version is not stated.

This is the version with protection case (bow version). Quick's website describes the protection case as IP66 (BTQ 110, 125, 185) or IP67 (BTQ 140) and states CB is the bow thruster and CS the stern thruster version.

What voltage and fuse does this thruster need?
The BTQ1404012 runs from 12V DC and Quick's manual recommends a 225 A CNL DIN fuse. Cable cross-section depends on the total positive plus negative cable length; see the battery and cable table in the manual.
What tunnel does it need?
A 140 mm diameter tunnel. The tunnel is a separate item (see Quick bow thruster tunnels in the same range); the thruster supply per the manual is the thruster, drilling template, gasket, O-ring, manual and warranty conditions.
What controls are recommended?
Quick's BTQ manual recommends TCD 2022, TCD 2042, TCD 2044 or TCD 2062 remote controls, the TSC 2000 integrated line switch control or a TMS line switch (not included).
Can I run the thruster continuously?
No. Quick's manual states the thruster is not designed for continuous use. It has built-in protections that limit its running time (see the control panel manual), and Quick states these protections must not be bypassed or modified, as doing so voids the warranty. Do not run the thruster out of the water for more than 10 seconds.
What maintenance does a Quick thruster need?
Quick recommends dismantling and servicing once a year: clean the propeller, tunnel and gearleg, replace the anode (more often if needed), replace the propeller if damaged or worn, check all screws, check for water seepage, check electrical connections and the batteries (DC models). See the installation and user manual for the full procedure.
