Description

This kit (E70718) contains everything needed to add wireless remote control to a Raymarine Evolution autopilot: the RCU-1 handheld remote and the WG-1 Wireless Gateway, paired at the factory so the remote connects as soon as it is switched on. Wear the remote on its lanyard or leave it in its cradle, and engage the pilot, make course changes or drop back to standby while you trim, work on deck or tend fishing gear.

The RCU-1 has a sunlight-viewable colour screen with up to six pages of NMEA 2000 data, Point and Go course setting (aim the remote where you want to go), and safety features including Solo Sailor mode for single-handed sailing and a Lost Connection MOB alarm. The handset is IP67 rated and runs on two AA batteries. The WG-1 is a compact puck that takes its 12 V supply from the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 network (LEN 1), is rated IPx6 / IPx7 and can sit above or below decks. It supports up to three RCU-1 remotes, so you can add more handsets (A80835) later.

The RCU-1 works only with Raymarine Evolution autopilots (EV-1 or EV-2 sensor on software v3.21 or later) and is designed to work alongside a main pilot controller: a p70-series head or an Axiom / Axiom 2 chartplotter. If you would like a hand checking your system before you order, our team is happy to advise.

Will the RCU-1 work with my older Raymarine autopilot?
Only if it is an Evolution autopilot. The RCU-1 needs an Evolution system with an EV-1 or EV-2 sensor core running software v3.21 or later. SPX, X-Series and older SeaTalk 1 autopilots, and other makes of autopilot, are not compatible.
Is the remote already paired to the gateway?
Yes. In the E70718 kit the RCU-1 and WG-1 are supplied pre-paired, so the remote connects automatically when switched on once the gateway is powered on the network.
Do I need a WG-1 Wireless Gateway?
Yes. Every RCU-1 installation needs a WG-1 on the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 network. The remote cannot pair directly with an Axiom chartplotter over Bluetooth.
Can the RCU-1 be the only autopilot controller on board?
No. The system must also have a p70-series control head or an Axiom / Axiom 2-series chartplotter (LightHouse 4 v4.11.103 or later) acting as the main pilot controller. The RCU-1 then works alongside it.
How many RCU-1 remotes can one gateway support?
A single WG-1 supports up to three RCU-1 remotes at the same time, provided no other wireless devices are paired to it.
Can I run trolling patterns from the RCU-1?
No. Pattern steering and Jog Steer are not available from the remote. If one of these modes is engaged from another controller, the RCU-1 shows the mode but its course-change buttons are disabled.
Does the RCU-1 float?
No. Raymarine supplies a lanyard and a cradle so you can wear it or stow it safely.
Can I use rechargeable batteries?
Yes. The remote takes two AA batteries and works with alkaline, lithium or rechargeable NiMH / NiCd cells. Rechargeables must be charged outside the remote.
What is Solo Sailor mode?
A safety feature for single-handed sailing. With Solo Sailor enabled and the pilot steering to wind on a boat set up as a sailing vessel, if the remote loses its connection for about 10 seconds the system raises a Man Overboard alarm and turns the boat head to wind. Raymarine advises not to use it with crew aboard.
