Featured brands include Raymarine Evolution, Simrad AP, Garmin Reactor, and B&G autopilots.
System Integration: Autopilots integrate seamlessly with GPS chartplotters, marine instruments, and radar systems via NMEA networking.
Matching a drive to your boat
Which autopilot suits your boat depends less on brand and more on drive type. A wheel pilot with its own drive wheel suits boats already steered by wheel, cable and rotary drives replace part of the mechanical steering run on larger boats, and hydraulic inboard pumps are sized to a rudder's torque rather than boat length alone. Get the drive size wrong and the pilot will hunt in a following sea or struggle to hold course into wind and tide.
Every system needs a rudder reference unit, or a fluxgate and GPS compass on tiller pilots, feeding the course computer, and most modern pilots share this over NMEA 2000 so a chartplotter can display heading, cross track error and steer to a waypoint. Check your existing display's spare NMEA 2000 ports before adding a controller head, since some older networks need a bridge to take on a new pilot.
Send us your boat's displacement and steering type if you would like help matching a drive.
