Radome or open array from Glomex
A radome houses the antenna inside a fixed dome, which keeps the whole unit compact and safe to stand near while transmitting, making it the usual choice for a mast or arch mount on a smaller cruiser where deck space and air draft are limited. An open array exposes the rotating antenna directly, giving a longer, narrower beam for the same power output, which improves target separation at range but needs more space and clearance to swing safely.
Range and detail scale roughly with array or radome size and transmit power, so a boat doing mostly coastal work in a busy anchorage benefits more from a compact radome's short-range clarity, while one making longer offshore passages benefits from an open array's reach.
Whichever type you choose, check the radar's own data protocol against your existing chartplotter before ordering, since not every scanner pairs natively with every display brand, and confirm the mast or arch can take the additional weight and swing radius before committing to a larger array.
