What a stabilised dome actually does
A marine satellite TV dome holds its position relative to the satellite while the boat rolls, pitches and turns underway, which is the whole difference between it and a fixed antenna that only works at anchor. Dome size generally correlates with how well it holds a signal in rougher conditions and at greater distance from the satellite's footprint edge, so a boat that cruises further offshore or into more marginal reception areas benefits from a larger dome than one used mainly in sheltered coastal waters.
The dome needs a clear view of the sky, so mounting position matters: a radar arch, targa bar or dedicated pole mount clear of the mast, rigging, and any radar scanner will give the most consistent reception. A separate receiver box usually sits below deck and connects to the dome and to the onboard TV, so check what is included before assuming a dome alone completes the installation.
