Picking a transducer type for your hull
Transom mount transducers are the simplest to fit on planing hulls and give a clean signal at speed, but they sit in the flow behind the prop and can cavitate on some hull shapes. In-hull transducers, shot into a resin pool inside the boat, avoid drilling altogether and work well on solid glass hulls but lose some sensitivity and cannot support side or down imaging. Thru-hull transducers, fitted through the bottom of the boat, give the best signal on deep-vee or high-deadrise hulls and are the usual choice for serious offshore fishing.
Match the connector on any transducer to the sonar module fitted in the unit, since Lowrance has used more than one plug style across its Active Imaging and traditional CHIRP ranges, and a mismatched connector is the most common reason a new transducer will not power up. Check the transom deadrise angle against the transducer's mounting bracket before ordering.
