Building out a Maretron N2K network
Maretron's own hardware, from the DSM display range through to individual sensors, sits on a standard NMEA 2000 backbone and will share that backbone with instruments, engines and other electronics from different manufacturers, provided everything speaks NMEA 2000 rather than a proprietary variant. A backbone needs terminators at each end, a power tap, and drop cables to each device; total cable length and the number of devices both have limits worth checking before a large installation.
Where Maretron adds something distinct is N2KView, its own monitoring and alarm software that can pull data from any device on the network, not just Maretron's, and present it on a dedicated display or a PC. DeviceMapper, Maretron's free network mapping tool, is worth using to check a backbone for conflicts before commissioning.
