What to check before adding new kit
New products entering the range are not automatically a drop in match for what is already fitted on board, even from the same manufacturer. Firmware versions on chartplotters and displays sometimes need updating before a newly released transducer, camera or sensor will talk to them correctly, and it is worth checking this against your current software version rather than assuming plug and play. Connector standards also shift between generations, so a new device using NMEA 2000 or a proprietary network plug may need an adapter to join an older backbone.
IP ratings, mounting footprints and cable lengths are all worth checking against the space and network you already have, particularly if you are replacing one part of a system rather than starting fresh. If you are planning to add a newly listed item to an existing installation and want to confirm it will integrate cleanly, let us know what is already fitted and we can check compatibility before you order.
