Fitting a wireless charger at the helm

Qi charging output drops off quickly with distance and misalignment, so the mounting position matters: a phone needs to sit flat and centred over the charging coil, which is why Scanstrut's chargers are usually built into a fixed mount rather than a loose tray. Check your phone case is compatible with wireless charging before fitting; some thicker or metal-backed cases block the charge entirely.

Power draw is modest but still needs a fused, correctly rated supply back to the battery, and confirming whether the unit is 12V or 24V matters before wiring in, since charger electronics are matched to a single input range. Waterproof ratings apply to the housing, not necessarily to the phone sitting in it, so check what protection the charger itself offers in an open cockpit before leaving a device unattended in wet conditions.
