Using a tablet as a backup plotter
A waterproof tablet case turns a phone or iPad into a genuinely usable backup to a fixed chartplotter, provided the case is actually rated for the job; look for an IPX6 rating rather than assuming any waterproof case is splash-proof to the same standard in spray and rain. Touchscreens generally work through a well-fitted case, though thick cases can affect sensitivity in cold or wet conditions.
Mount choice depends on where the device will live day to day. A fixed helm bracket suits a tablet used as a primary navigation app screen, while a quick-release phone mount makes more sense for a device that moves between boat and pocket. If you already run a ROKK wireless charger, check the case is thin enough at the back to charge through, since a bulky case or metal ring holder will block Qi charging even when the mount aligns correctly.
